Civic Involvement

I am a proud Veteran and have a combined 15 years of Service in the United States Army. My service took me to several locations including, Ft Jackson SC, Ft Gordon GA, Ft Detroit MD, Republic of South Korea, and Ft Bragg NC. After my initial five-year service on Active duty, I served with the Michigan Army National Guard in Ypsilanti and the US Army Reserves out of Ann Arbor. I come from an extensive line of veterans with members of my family serving in every major war going back to the American Revolution. I am currently in the process of being certified as a Son of the American Revolution.

After leaving military service in 2013, I turned my focus to serving my local community. Over the years, you have likely seen me volunteering my time and talents to several Westland events and projects that continue to make Westland a better place. From raking leaves for seniors, to working long hours at community festivals and events, I’ve been on the forefront of contributing to my community.

I’m a proud member of the Michigan Junior Chamber (Jaycees) and served as the Westland Area Jaycees chapter president in 2015. Over that year, we grew the chapter over 200% and managed to take part in nearly every event we could, to include hosting our very own. In 2015, I also worked with my board and the City of Westland to launch the Veterans 5K at Central City Park. In its second year, we have generated nearly $15000 in funds that went to local Veteran advocacy groups such as Camp Liberty, the Freedom Center, and Veterans Haven. In 2016, I was proud to be honored by the United States Junior Chamber as being one of the top 10 local chapter presidents in the United States for my service while serving as Chapter President for Westland.

My military service has taught me a great deal on how to be a leader. Lead by example. Never ask anyone to do something that you yourself are unwilling to do. Learn to adapt your leadership style that best fits the situation. Listen to understand, not respond. These guidelines have helped me through my professional career and I submit them to you, as part of my resume.
